Description
This mission is in response to the specific request for technical assistance by the Government of Turkmenistan, as a follow up to the establishment of a domestic institutional mechanism on WTO accession, as per the agreement reached between DG Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. The objective of the mission is to assist the Government in the preparation of the necessary documentary basis for the activation of the Working Party process. The programme of the visit includes meetings with the officials and experts of the Government and donors, trainings and technical working sessions on the preparation of the negotiating inputs.

By the end of the activity, the basis for the Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Regime of Turkmenistan (Chapters 1 - 3 and 7), as well as other negotiating inputs (Legislative Action Plan), shall be produced. This documentation, once approved by the Government of Turkmenistan with domestic stakeholders, shall be submitted to the Secretariat, for circulation to WTO Members, so that the 1st meeting of the Working Party could take place afterwards.
