Description
Timor-Leste is in the process of WTO accession. In this process, the Timor-Leste government has expressed an interest to join the Information Technology Agreement and the ITA Expansion agreement (ITA 2). A Note-Verbale and letter of intention was sent to the Director-General on 27 February. At the request of the authority, a national workshop on ITA and ITA Expansion will be held in Dili in the week of 12 June. The workshop aims to deepen TL officials' understanding of the rights and obligations under two agreements and clarify the related procedures. The WTO Secretariat will also take the opportunity to help the national authority to prepare their draft ITA and ITA 2 Schedules on a line by line basis. Working sessions with different ministries and business communities will also be held to discuss potential opportunities and challenges under new market opening.
