Description
Upon the request of China, the WTO Secretariat will, together with the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC), organize a national TA activity on global trade, technology innovation and intellectual property in China. The TA activity will consist of a three-day Workshop with a focus on intellectual property protection and the platform economy in Guangzhou from 14 to 16 January 2020 and a one-day roundtable meetings between WTO Secretariat and the IP Tribunal of the Supreme Court of P.R. China and MOFCOM and/or Ministry of Finance in Beijing on 17 January 2020.

The Workshop will be devoted to the role of intellectual property in the platform economy. It aims at providing participants with a solid understanding of the impact of the platform economy on trade of IP sensitive products, and the economic importance and value of IPRs in the platform economy. It also aims at providing a forum to share national and regional legislation, regulations and jurisprudence on the issue of online intermediary liability, which is a key issue for IP legal regimes. Furthermore, it will address China's experience on the administrative enforcement of IPRs and technological solutions in strengthening IP protection in the platform economy.
