Description
The WTO Secretariat plans to conduct a national workshop in Panama on trade in services under the Trade in Services for Development (TS4D) initiative.

The main objectives of this two-day workshop are to:

1) Analyze recent developments and emerging trends in global and regional trade in services, particularly the impact of digitalization.
2) Examine the key features of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), including its scope, core obligations, and schedules of specific commitments.
3) Review the main characteristics of regional trade agreements in services, including their different approaches to scheduling commitments.
4) Familiarize participants with practical tools, including the Global Services Trade Data Hub and the I-TIP Services database.
5) Familiarize participants with the World Bank-WTO Services Trade Competitiveness Dashboard in order to facilitate an assessment of Panama’s services sector performance and to discuss its competitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as potential priority areas for improving national policies.

This WTO activity will be followed by a two-day activity organized by UN-ECLAC on services export promotion, in which the WTO will take part.
