Title of the activity
Advanced Agriculture Notification Workshop
Activity Type
Thematic course/Workshop
Description
The Workshop is organized by the Agriculture and Commodities Division (AGCD) in cooperation with the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC). It is a Level 3 specialized training activity implemented within the WTO Progressive Learning Strategy and it represents the highest level of learning among WTO training activities.
The Workshop offers specialized training to capital-based government officials with direct responsibility in the preparation and/or analysis of notifications under the Agreement on Agriculture. The objectives are:
1) to enable Members to fulfil their notification obligations in a timely manner in line with the transparency requirements prescribed by the Agreement and the notification procedures adopted by the Committee on Agriculture (CoA); and
2) to increase the capacity of Members to participate in the review of notifications in the CoA.
The Workshop combines lectures from AGCD officials, practical exercises and case studies. The workshop also provides a platform to discuss specific technical issues Members may face in preparing and analysing agriculture notifications.
The Workshop is delivered in the WTO official languages, English, French, and Spanish (simultaneous interpretation).

selection process
The WTO Secretariat will select a total of 30 candidates for the Workshop from among Members and Observers eligible to benefit from WTO training and technical cooperation activities. The participation of the 30 selected candidates will be financed by the WTO (i.e. a return economy class ticket, a terminal expenses allowance, daily subsistence allowance, including accommodation for the duration of the workshop).
In order to maximize the impact of this workshop, priority will be given in the selection process to candidates who have completed the WTO's E-Learning course on the Agreement on Agriculture (or attended a face-to-face course on this subject). Candidates who have completed such training should indicate this in their application. Priority will also be given to candidates from Members with low levels of notification compliance, as well as from Members and Observers who have not benefited from the workshop in recent years. Selected participants will be strongly encouraged to come ready with a draft of at least one outstanding agriculture notification, or the relevant data and information necessary to prepare it.
