National Workshop on the WTO Agreement on Agriculture and Agriculture Negotiations
Activity Type
National
Description
The WTO national workshop on agriculture seeks to enhance domestic policymakers’ understanding of Nigeria’s rights and obligations under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture and to equip them to formulate, coordinate, and implement agricultural policies consistent with the WTO framework of rules. The workshop focuses in particular on the rules governing agricultural subsidisation (domestic support and export subsidies), enabling policymakers to design support measures that meet Nigeria’s developmental objectives, particularly with regard to the livelihoods of small and resource-poor farmers, while remaining consistent with its WTO obligations. Another key objective of the workshop is to strengthen government officials’ understanding of agricultural notification requirements so as to enable them to address outstanding notifications.
