Title of the activity
IFC-WTO Trade Finance Workshop - Capacity Building for Banks and SMEs
Activity Type
National
Description
The SME-focused trade finance national workshop aims at delivering knowledge on trade finance facilities, in particular those which can be used by local importers and exporters. Trade finance training programs for SMEs have seen considerable interest in low-income, fragile, and vulnerable economies where companies are subject to the highest rejection rates by bank, in part because of the high collateral requirements, the poor definition of their needs and non-compliant applications. The workshop takes a deep dive into specialized, collateral-less trade finance instruments well adapted to Africa, discusses with banks the best way to implement these products, and promotes partnerships with existing facilitation programs of the IFC (co-sponsor), Afreximbank (participant) and the ITC (developing a facility as well).
