WCP: Disbursement of Grants to Phase 4 Chairs
Activity Type
Global
Description
The WTO Chairs Programme (WCP) enhances knowledge and understanding of the multilateral trading system among academics, policymakers and other stakeholders by supporting trade-related research, curriculum development and outreach activities at academic institutions in developing and least developed WTO members and observers. WTO support to the Chairs is implemented through the provision of an annual grant (up to CHF 50,000) and monitoring by the Secretariat of their performance under each of the three pillars (research, curriculum development, outreach) of the programme. Five universities were selected for Phase 4 of the programme and are entitled to an annual grant in 2026 under MoUs they have signed with the WTO. In each of these institutions, the Chairholder is supported by team members (including in one case a Co-Chairholder) who contribute to the implementation of projects under the programme.About 40 individuals in the Phase 4 academic institutions are involved in the implementation of research, training and outreach activities related to international trade. Outputs of the programme are measured in respect of the three pillars. Specific performance indicators are set out in the logframe contained in the Biennial TA Plan 2026-2027 (WT/COMTD/W/299).
