Description
The Specialized course on SPS Committee participation is a newly designed training activity, making use of blended approaches for adult learning. This course is an in-depth and "hands-on" activity focusing on the work of the SPS Committee as a vital tool to oversee the implementation of the SPS Agreement, and on the instruments available to Members to resolve SPS issues. Participant will attend a one week face-to-face module comprising various real-life exercises on the technicalities of the work of the SPS Committee, preceded and followed by virtual sessions of a more theoretical nature. The course will promote the active involvement of participants with responsibilities in SPS-related matters, assisting them in enhancing their understanding of and participation in the work of the SPS Committee.

selection process
The Governments of Members and Observers to the WTO, which are eligible to benefit from training and technical cooperation activities, are invited to submit the names of up to two officials meeting the pre-requisites, for consideration in the selection process.
Candidates will be selected using criteria such as the fulfilment of pre-requisites, prior selection of other candidates from the technical assistance beneficiary, as well as balance among the selected candidates in terms of region and gender.
Selected participants will receive confirmation directly. Additional administrative information, travel details and ticket will be sent shortly after the selection has taken place.
Candidates will be selected using criteria such as the fulfilment of pre-requisites, prior selection of other candidates from the technical assistance beneficiary, as well as balance among the selected candidates in terms of region and gender.

Pre-requisite
For the Specialized Course on SPS Committee Participation, candidates must:
a. have successfully completed the WTO SPS e-Learning Course by the time of their
application;
b. hold direct responsibilities in the SPS area, e.g. specialists on food safety, animal health,
plant protection, or be officials from a relevant Ministry in charge of coordinating
SPS matters and international trade;
c. possess a proven advanced level of understanding of the provisions and structure of the
WTO, and the principles and provisions of the SPS Agreement, and must be willing to
take initiative and leadership; and
d. be fluent in oral and written English
