WTO Trade Policies Review Best Practices Workshop for LDCs

Description
It is envisaged that a roundtable workshop involving officials from the WTO Secretariat, China, and LDCs take place in Shanghai in November 2023. The WTO Secretariat would make presentations on the TPR process, the TPRs of LDCs and TPR follow-ups.

Selected LDCs would present detailing how the TPR process and the follow-up were beneficial for them, what problems and pitfalls they encountered and how these were resolved. They could provide details of how the country approached the TPR process, how responsibilities were assigned and information gathering. They could also explain how they used the TPR process to highlight their development needs.

China would present on its experience as it has undergone one of the most stringent review experiences since it's accession. It would provide details of best practices, how it adapted and how has it found the TPR process to be beneficial.

These presentations would be followed by a roundtable discussion and questions and answers. These would be facilitated by the WTO Secretariat.

You are invited to submit the names of two capital-based officials, for consideration in the selection process. However, if selected, only one participant per Member will be provided with financial support from The China Programme.
Completed application forms, formally endorsed by the authorities, must be submitted by the relevant government’s Permanent Mission in Geneva or the contact point for WTO affairs in capital. Nominations received from other sources will not be taken into consideration. Application forms should be transmitted to the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation, Logistics Unit (email: logistics.unit@wto.org) NO LATER THAN 2nd October 2023.
Pre-requisite
The nominees should be middle to senior level officials who have proven professional experience and responsibilities in the area of Trade Policy Review process.
Participants are also required to be fluent in English which will be the working language of this event.
