Based on request from Nigeria, a National Workshop on the Agreement on Agriculture and Agriculture Notifications will be organized in Abuja. The Workshop would aim to assist the government officials and other stakeholders to improve their understanding of the WTO framework in the domain of agriculture, especially under the Agreement on Agriculture, as well as newer rules agreed under the agriculture negotiations. The Workshop would specifically focus on rules in the area of agricultural subsidization so as to assist Nigeria in the fulfilment of its two annual notifications covering domestic support and export subsidies respectively as well as the newer transparency obligations emanating from the Nairobi Decision on Export Competition. The workshop would take up practical aspects of formulating and implementing agricultural trade and support policies consistent with WTO rules. Nigeria's participation in the deliberations for the Committee on Agriculture, both in its Regular Special Sessions, and the issues of its interests, would also be considered in the workshop towards an improved and informed participation of Nigeria in these two bodies.
