Title of the activity
WTO e-Seminar on competition policy, trade and development
Activity Type
Virtual workshop - Global
Description
This e-Seminar will provide an opportunity for participants to enhance their awareness of the complementarities of competition and trade policies and their combined use in support of economic development, with particular reference to the WTO agreements, including the TRIPS Agreement, the GATS and the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA). Developments in the application of competition policy vis-à-vis intellectual property rights and government procurement in the public health sector will be discussed to highlight the increasing relevance of these issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. The role of competition policy in the increasingly digitalised world will also be explored during the e-Seminar. The e-Seminar will also look at the inclusion of competition policy chapters in most recent regional trade agreements and at lessons that international trade cooperation holds for international coordination efforts in the field of competition policy.
