Title of the activity
WTO Introductory Trade Policy Course for LDCs
Activity Type
Other global activity
Description
The course represents a level 1 activity of the WTO's 3-level Progressive Learning Strategy for trade-related capacity-building and, once completed, serves as a prerequisite for level 2 courses.

This course introduces participants to the WTO, its basic rules and disciplines and its functioning. The main objective is to provide participants with a good foundation of the functioning, structure and basic principles of the WTO. This is done mainly through presentations and exercises on the WTO's basic principles and exceptions thereto, as reflected in the main WTO agreements. The development dimension constitutes an important element of the programme, including highlighting the decisions that have been adopted in favour of the LDCs since the launch of the DDA.

In addition to the presentations and exercises, participants will be engaged in a revision quiz at the end of every week. A visit to a WTO body is foreseen in week 2, while in week 3 the involvement of LDC delegates in a roundtable discussion will provide participants with an improved understanding of the priorities for LDCs and future work programme at the WTO.

This activity is held in English, and forms part of the WTO Technical Assistance and Training Plan.
