Title of the activity
Thematic Course on Trade in Services Statistics
Activity Type
Thematic course/Workshop
Description
The course is targeted at trade in services statisticians who are directly involved in the collection and/or compilation of trade in services statistics, in particular in Africa, and who already possess a good knowledge of internationally-agreed standards in trade in services statistics, such as the IMF Balance of Payments Manual (BPM6), and the Manual on Statistics of International Trade in Services (MSITS2010).
Individual sessions, which will also include case studies and numerical exercises, will be dedicated to service sectors of trade interest. To this extent, selected participants will be invited to submit concrete examples of difficulties faced in data collection, and to discuss possible solutions with experts from national statistical offices/Central Banks and/or international organizations.
Participants are expected to be actively involved in the course to share their challenges, discuss solutions, and expand their knowledge and skills.
An interactive, hands-on-session will familiarize statisticians with existing WTO databases on trade in services and exercises.
Prior to the face-to-face segment, selected participants will follow the UNCTAD-WTO e-learning course on trade in services statistics, to ensure the same level of knowledge.
It is planned that various experts from other WTO Members at a more advanced stage in the measurement of trade in services will participate in the course, as well as experts from other international organizations.
