Description
The activity consists of a one-week course focusing on international trade law and policy. The activity is designed to improve the knowledge of students about the WTO organizational structure more generally, and the substantive obligations and exceptions contained in the WTO covered agreements, more specifically. The course covers: (a) the relationship between WTO law and international law / domestic law; (b) WTO mechanisms for implementation, transparency, and review; (c) rules of origin; (d) the most-favoured-nation principle and the national treatment principle; (e) border management and tariff barriers to market access; (f) border management and non-tariff barriers to market access; and (g) various types of exceptions or special programs. Students enrolled in the course will learn this material through lectures, discussions, and interactions with fact patterns or case studies. At the conclusion of the course, the students will sit for an examination.
