Title of the activity
WTO participation in the "Awareness creation workshop to maximize the positive and minimize the negative impacts of implementation of response measures".
Activity Type
TA by partners - Regional
Description
Speaker regional workshop (for Latin America) by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The regional workshop entitled "Awareness creation workshop to maximize the positive and minimize the negative impacts of implementation of response measures", will take place from 22 to 24 May 2019 in Santiago, Chile. The workshop is aimed at government officials from the Latin American region working on response measures (main trade aspect of climate change discussions).
The WTO would provide inputs related to trade and climate work, as well as ongoing discussions on how trade can contribute to economic diversification, one of the topics of focus of the UNFCCC process. This input has been highly valued by officials in our last participation in the African Workshop in 2018. This activity will be a very useful opportunity to continue to provide technical training to government officials working with response measures in the UNFCCC process (the UNFCCC Forum on response measures is the climate change main body addressing trade issues). It is also significant that it will take place in Chile, who will chair the next UNFCCC conference of the parties this year.
