Description
This course offers a cross-cutting overview of the principles, functions, and WTO Agreements. The topics covered in the program include, among others, market access for non-agricultural goods, agriculture, rules of origin, trade facilitation, trade in services, TRIPS, standards, trade and the environment, technical barriers to trade, the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, and the dispute settlement system. The activity is co-organized by ALADI (Latin American Integration Association) and the WTO.

Each Permanent Mission to ALADI Secretariat may submit to the General Secretariat of ALADI a maximum of five (5) nominations, no later than Friday, 16 October 2026.
Each candidate must complete the online application form made available by the WTO, accessible at the following link: https://wto.formstack.com/forms/xxv_curso_breve_politica_comercial. Once completed and submitted electronically, the candidate must forward it to their Permanent Mission to ALADI, which will be responsible for formally submitting the nominations.
A committee will review the applications and select up to twenty-two (22) participants, seeking to ensure a balanced representation of ALADI member countries and taking into account the candidates' qualifications and professional experience.
The results of the selection process will be communicated by the General Secretariat of ALADI to the respective Permanent Missions, as well as directly to the selected candidates.

Pre-requisite
Candidates must be government officials based in the capital of their own countries with responsibility for issues related to international or regional trade (including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; ministries responsible for Trade and Industry, Economy, Agriculture, Health, and Environment; the Customs Administration; the Intellectual Property Office; the standards and conformity assessment body, etc.). Candidates must have prior knowledge of the World Trade Organization (WTO), either by demonstrating equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience or by having completed an online course.
