Description
This week-long training course is organised for government officials from acceding governments who are involved in accession negotiations, in particular, in preparing market access offers on services. The course will comprise a mix of lectures, interactive exercises, simulations, and experience-sharing discussions. Trends in trade in services, GATS disciplines, scheduling of commitments, bilateral aspects of accession negotiations and services commitments in accessions, among others, will be the focus of this course.

selection process
To take part in this training, acceding governments will be requested to nominate candidates directly involved in accession negotiations, particularly, in market access negotiations on trade in services. Nominations should be presented through the permanent missions to the WTO. Approximately 30 participants will be selected for this in-person course.
Pre-requisite
Candidates should possess knowledge of the basic WTO principles with a focus on the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the WTO accession negotiations process. Candidates should have completed the WTO E-learning course "Trade in Services in the WTO" before the training. Successfully completing the e-learning course and attending all sessions of the training are conditions for receiving a certificate for the course. An excellent ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing is a prerequisite for participation.
