This national workshop on the TRIPS Agreement, held at Nigeria's request, is designed to build Nigeria's capacity for implementing the TRIPS Agreement.

This activity comprises two distinct parts, as per Nigeria's request, aimed at fostering comprehensive discussions and insights into TRIPS-related matters. The first part will delve into the primary Intellectual Property categories and outlined in the TRIPS Agreement. It will also highlight enforcement of IPRs as set out in the TRIPS Agreement. It will draw together stakeholders from the Federal Ministry of Trade and other ministries (e.g. Health, Agriculture), the Nigerian Copyright Commission (Federal Ministry of Justice), the Nigerian Commercial Law Department (including officials from the Trademarks, Patent and Designs Registry), the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC), the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), the Nigeria Customs Service, the Judiciary, key private sector associations (manufacturers association, pharmaceuticals, chambers of commerce, textiles, movie and creative industry), and academia. The WIPO Secretariat is expected to collaborate in this segment to enrich discussions and insights.

Additionally, the third day of the workshop will be dedicated to focused small-group sessions with select officials and stakeholders, with the aim to facilitate in-depth discussions on specific topics concerning TRIPS flexibilities and their implementation into national law.
