Session 1: Setting the scene

Session 2: Gender concepts of gender lens and their relevance for trade

Objective: At the end of the session the participants will be able to understand gender concepts and how they relate to trade and trade policy making.

Evidence: We noted improvement regarding their understanding of the gender impact and readiness assessment and the different ways to improve data collection at various stages of the formulation of their trade policies and national gender strategy.

Session 3: Introduction to trade and gender in the WTO

Objective: At the end of the session the participants will be able to understand the links between trade and gender and how the WTO works on this issue

Indicator: Presentation to the group – relevance, quality of the substance, quality of the form, time management, etc.
Evidence: The session raised awareness on the links between trade and gender and give a new perspective on how trade can impact women's economic empowerment. Using concrete examples, it helped officials understand why trade rules are not gender neutral and how WTO trade agreements can be implemented with gender lens for a positive impact on women.
Conclusion: The objective was fully achieved.

Session 4: Gender responsive trade policies – trends and facts

Objective: At the end of the session the participants will be able to understand to better integrate gender issues in their trade policies.
Category: Improve analytical, communication or negotiating skills / Improve capability to assess the implications and deal with a given WTO subject

Evidence: Participants indicated that the knowledge and skills learned has provided them with more appropriate ways to implement a trade policy with a gender focus. This will lead to strengthening the gender aspects in their national policies and disciplines, as an important contribution do their sustainable development objectives.

Session 5: WTO trade and gender policy tools

Objective: At the end of the session the participants will be able to understand to better integrate gender issues in their trade policies.

Evidence: The interactions during the exercises showed that they also deepened their knowledge of gender concepts, learning how to link them with trade issues.

Session 7: Designing a gender and trade policy supporting women's economic empowerment - Review session

Category: Identify, analyse and address technical assistance needs, implementation problems or other aspects of the local context

Evidence: Participants now feel better equipped to advocate for more gender-responsive trade programmes and said they will promote activities that improve women's conditions. They will use what they've learned to improve national research and training initiatives.

Session 8: A gender perspective to Free Trade agreements
Date: 01/04/2022 Duration: 2.3 (h)

Objective: At the end of the session the participants will be able to understand the rational in integrating gender provisions in trade agreements and what has been done so far by members and how.
Category: Enhance the capacity of government officials to operationalize and correctly implement provisions of one or several WTO Agreements

Indicator: Participants opinion
Evidence: Participants mentioned that they now look at FTAs provisions with a gender perspective.
Conclusion: At the end of the course, participants said they have a greater knowledge of the trade and gender nexus, will implement trade and gender concepts and tools in analysing and developing trade policies and better understand how the WTO approaches the issue of trade and gender.
